5 Reasons Your Big Sister is the Best Gift

“There is no better friend than a sister, and there is no better sister than you.”

Big sisters are (literally) there from day one. They see every dirty diaper, embarrassing moment, and every tear shed. They are by your side for the bad days, the good ones, and every moment (or melt down) in between, and no matter what they still love you in the most unconditional way.

I can see the bond between my girls already in such a short time. It is an incredible thing to witness. I grew up an only child and my husband was one of three boys, so witnessing our daughters interact has been one of the most entertaining and heartwarming things. ever. I’ve come up with 5 reasons giving our girls each other was the best thing we ever did.

 

1. She is your first and truest friend.

You will go through everything together. Your big sister will be there to watch you take your first steps, transition to a big girl bed, go to your first day of school, and your first dance.  As you grow together, your bond becomes stronger. Of course you will fight and have your moments (especially during the teen years I’m sure), but your love for each other runs deep.

2. She will have your back no matter what and is always looking out for you.

She will be there to protect you, love you, and make sure no one else messes with you… except for her. She will also be there to give you the extra push you need when you’re unsure of something or a little scared.

3. She’ll give you the best hand-me-downs.

You’ll inherit the best clothes, toys, and much more from big sis because let’s face it.. Mommy and Daddy went a little overboard on their first born. Hey, it happens to the best of us, right?

4. She’ll be the one to take the blame first.

She knows that you get a pass for being the baby, so she’ll take the flack from Mommy and Daddy on your behalf. Being the first born means all of the rules were made for you. And testing them is big sister’s job, of course. Lead the way!

 

5. She’s always teaching you things.

She’ll teach you how to crawl, then to walk. How to fall, but to get back up. She’ll be the one cheering you on because she knows that once you figure it out she’ll have a built in forever playmate. She will teach you how to share your toys, how to use the big girl potty, and how to feed the doggies. She will show you how to paint, color, and make shapes with playdoh. She will teach you your ABC’s and how to count to 10. She will read to you, even if she doesn’t know all the words herself. And she’ll always be willing to sing and dance with you!

 

Sisters are amazing. Watching my girls together has brought a whole new joy to my life that I never knew existed. Knowing that they will have each other for the rest of their lives to lean on, encourage and love means so much to me. Everything I do, I do for my children. I love them with all of my heart and seeing them happy brings me more happiness than I ever could have imagined.
